Yavuz Aydin is one of the 4,500 Turkish judges to be purged by President Erdogan. Aydin graduated from Ankara University Law Faculty and completed his master’s degree at Exeter University (U.K.) on EU Law and European Human Rights Law.
From 2011 to 2014, Aydin worked as a justice councillor at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to the EU. While working as a judge in Turkey in July 2016 he was dismissed by the government as part of a crackdown following the attempted coup of the same year.
As of 2021 Aydin has been granted political asylum in Romania. He continues to work for judicial independence through the NGO Justice for Rule of Law.
