Nguyen Trung Trong Nghia, otherwise known as ‘Effy Nguyen’, is a Vietnamese video blogger who has produced sharp commentaries on social and political issues in Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen’s family has been subjected to ongoing police harassment and brutality, as the Vietnamese government increases its efforts to silence dissidents. Mr. Nguyen’s father, Pastor Nguyen Trung Ton, was arrested in July 2017, on the spurious charge of “conducting activities aimed at overthrowing the state”.
Mr. Nguyen continues to advocate on his father’s behalf despite efforts in 2020 by the Vietnamese state to restrict his freedom of movement.
