Husna Jalal

Husna Jalal is an exiled Afghan women’s rights activist and the daughter of Massouda Jalal.

Growing up in Afghanistan during a period of significant political and social turmoil, Jalal emerged as a powerful voice advocating for women’s empowerment and equal rights in the country. In 2021, following the Taliban’s return to power, Jalal was forced to flee to the Netherlands where she has continued her activism with even greater determination.

With a mission to safeguard and amplify Afghan women’s voices globally, Jalal founded the Young Afghan Women’s Movement, which provides resources, education, and a digital platform for young Afghan women to connect and collaborate in creating meaningful change.

Jalal also established Women for Change International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women and young people, particularly those from refugee and non-Western backgrounds. The initiative goes beyond Afghanistan, addressing global issues of gender inequality and supporting marginalized communities in their pursuit of education and leadership opportunities.

Jalal is the daughter of Massouda Jalal, the first woman to run for president of Afghanistan, and Faizullah Jalal, a human rights activist who was temporarily detained by the Taliban in 2022 for criticism of the regime.
