Jared Genser

Jared Genser is an international human rights lawyer dubbed ‘the extractor’ for his work freeing political prisoners. His past clients include Liu Xiaobo, Vaclav Havel, Desmond Tutu, and Elie Wiesel.

In 2001 Genser founded Freedom Now, an organisation working to free political prisoners. He has since worked as a managing director at Perseus Strategies, as an adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University, and as a Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy.

Genser is the author of The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention: Commentary and Guide to Practice, and has been the recipient of numerous prizes, including the 2020 Tällberg Eliasson Global Leadership Prize.
