David Trimble is a British politician who was the first First Minister of Northern Ireland.
Trimble began his career teaching law at Queen’s University, Belfast, and was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1990. In 1995 he was unexpectedly elected leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, and was instrumental in negotiating the Good Friday Agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland. He was recognised with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998.
Trimble was ennobled in 2006 as Baron Trimble of Lisnagarvey and sits in the House of Lords.
