Mohamed Al-Jahmi is the brother of leading Libyan dissident Fathi Al-Jahmi and a pro-democracy activist.
A civil engineer, Fathi Al-Jahmi served as governor of Libya’s gulf province until 1972. In 2002 he was arrested for making a speech in Tripoli in favour of free speech and human rights and freed only after the intervention of then-Senator Joe Biden. Numerous other imprisonments followed, often accompanied by torture and the denial of medical treatment. These contributed to his untimely death in 2009.
