Nimco Ali OBE is an award-winning British Somali feminist and social activist.
She is a co-founder of Daughters of Eve, a survivor-led organization that has helped transform approaches to ending female genital mutilation (FGM), as well as the Five Foundation, a global coalition for the same cause.
Nimco’s first book, RUDE, was published in 2019. She has guest edited Woman’s Hour on Radio 4 and appeared on Hardtalk and other BBC programs across TV and Radio. She has been published in Sky News and The Guardian.
In 2014 Nimco was awarded Red magazine’s Woman of the Year award and also placed 6th on Woman’s Hour’s Power List. She had previously won awards including Cosmopolitan’s Woman of the Year 2010 and the BBC’s 100 Women of 2013.
More recently she was named as one of Debrett’s 500 most influential people in Britain and for the second year ranked in the Evening Standard’s 1000 most powerful. She is a trustee at Women for Refugee Women, the Emma Humphreys Memorial Prize and a founding committee member of the Women’s Equality Party. She stood unsuccessfully for election on behalf of the party in Hornsey and Wood Green, London, in 2017.
In 2021 she joined Jesus College, Cambridge, as a Visiting Fellow.
