Saman Pouryaghma

Saman Pouryaghma is an Iranian activist who participated in the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom protests following the murder of Mahsa Amini.

During the brutal crackdown on demonstrators, Pouryaghma was shot in the face by the regime’s forces, resulting in permanent loss of sight in his left eye.

While still confined to a hospital bed, he was warned that the regime had come to arrest him. Fearing for his life, he made a daring escape, hiding in a consultation room before slipping out through the courtyard. Forced into hiding for the next 12 days, he miraculously managed to flee by plane to Turkey, leaving behind all of his belongings.

Now based in Germany, Pouryaghma remains a powerful voice for justice and human rights in Iran, raising awareness to the repression under the Islamic regime through speaking engagements and on social media.
