Veronica Tsepkalo

Veronica Tsepkalo is a Belarusian democracy activist and opposition leader and chair of the Belarus Women’s Foundation, which fights against the repression of women by the Lukashenka regime.

In 2020, after her husband, Valery Tsepkalo, was barred from running for president of Belarus, she became one of the three leaders of the national democratic movement alongside Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Maria Kalesnikava. The trio succeeded in bringing together an unprecedented number of people to protest against the Lukashenko regime, for which they were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and received the International Democracy and Sakharov Awards.

Following the rigged 2020 presidential election, she fled Belarus and joined her family in exile for their own safety.
