Jan Ilhan Kizilhan

Professor Doctor Jan Ilhan Kizilhan is a psychologist and trauma therapist who works with refugees from the so-called Islamic State (IS).

In 2014, Kizilhan gave an interview to Germany’s largest newspaper, Bild, in which he explained the situation of the Yazidi minority under IS. What followed was a unique humanitarian project, in which over 1100 Yazidi women and children were welcomed to Baden-Wurttemberg for treatment with him. He has since worked to establish regional trauma centres in Syria and Iraq, reaching thousands of other psychologically scarred victims left behind.

Kizilhan is the author of numerous books and articles and works as a reviewer for several international journals. He is Director of the Institute for Genocide and Peace Studies, Director of the Institute for Transcultural Health Science, and Dean of the Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology at the University of Dohuk.
