Ali Ehsassi is a Canadian MP of Iranian heritage who serves as Chair of Canada’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
The son of an Iranian diplomat, Ehsassi was born in Geneva and raised in New York City and Tehran. He and his family permanently emigrated from Iran following the revolution in 1979 and later settled in Canada. Ehsassi was elected a member of parliament in 2015 and has been chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee since June 2022.
Over the course of his political career, Ehsassi never abandoned his heritage and the plight of the people in Iran. He has publicly condemned the Islamic Republic’s human rights abuses and has urged Canada to refrain from supporting the regime’s terrorist agenda.
With the ongoing protests in Iran, Ehsassi has been an outspoken supporter of the Iranian people and central to Canada’s response.
