Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg

Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg was born in Tehran. As a young woman, she protested the regime, demonstrating for women’s rights and reform, and was locked in Evin Prison.

In 1985, she fled from Iran to Germany, and has lived in Frankfurt ever since. She studied psychology and received her doctorate. She established her own practice as a psychological psychotherapist. She has done work with the German Red Cross.

In Frankfurt, she has served as City Councillor, member of the Magistrate, Head of the Department for Integration, and the head of the department for diversity, anti-discrimination and social cohesion.

She is now the Mayor of Frankfurt.
