Hassan Akkad

Hassan Akkad  is a Bafta-winning documentary filmmaker, human rights activist, and published author.

He was detained and tortured twice for peacefully protesting against the Assad regime in 2011, and at one point granted an audience with the dictator to plead his case. Since escaping Syria, Akkad has successfully campaigned to extend the UK government’s bereavement schemes to all frontline migrant workers, where he currently resides as a refugee.

Akkad has appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, on CNN and a variety of other major media outlets.
