Jacqueline Kasha is a Ugandan activist and founder of Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG), one of the only lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersexual rights organizations in a country where homosexuality is criminalized. FARUG strives for the attainment of full equal rights for LGBT individuals and the eradication of all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation.
In response to a broadly anti-gay media, Jacqueline launched The Kuchu Times in 2014, a platform for LGBT communities throughout Africa. She also publishes the Magazine Bombastic, which focusses primarily on the LGBT community in Uganda.
In 2011, as the world was celebrating 100 years of International Women’s Day, she was listed on the Women Deliver 100 list, as well as among the 50 most inspiring feminist women in Africa. That same year Jacqueline was awarded the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders. She is the first openly gay individual to appear on the cover of the European TIME magazine.
