Juan Carlos Gutiérrez is a human rights lawyer, the President of the World Jurist Association’s Human Rights Institute and a partner at Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo Law Firm. He is a member of the International Criminal Court’s List of Counsel.
Gutiérrez is a defender of the prisoner of conscience Leopoldo López, Venezuelan President Juan Guaido and several other prominent political prisoners in Venezuela. He serves as counsel to a number of NGOs supporting political prisoners in Bolivia, Cuba, Turkey and Venezuela.
At the Geneva Summit, he presented the case of Dr. Eduardo Cardet, leader of the Christian Liberation Movement, who was under arbitrary detention in Cuba.
In 2019 Dr. Cardet was given ‘conditional release’ on probation.
