Dechen Pemba

Dechen Pemba is a Tibetan dissident and the founder of ‘High Peaks Pure Earth’, a website that publishes English translations of Tibetan poems, songs, and other writings by Tibetans inside Tibet.

Of British birth, Pemba opened the Berlin office of advocacy group International Campaign for Tibet in 2001,  before moving to China in 2006 to study Chinese. In 2008 she was expelled from the country for ‘illegal activities’ connected to her website. Given an initial 5 year ban, she has not since returned.
