Diego Scharifker is a Venezuelan pro-democracy activist and a former leader of the country’s student movement. Scharifker co-founded the National Federation of High School Students and is the former president of the Federation of University Centers at the Central University of Venezuela.
In January 2009, Scharifker was the target of verbal attacks on a state-run national TV channel. He has since been singled out for his activism in the student movement and for his Jewish heritage. Since then, Scharifker has continued to advocate and protest for student rights and other human rights issues. He is a leader in the Nuevo Tiempo Party and has served as its political secretary and youth director.
He now works as a lawyer and activist, having previously served on the Muncipal Court of Chacao.
