Jacques Beres

Jacques Beres had been a war surgeon for 40 years when he smuggled himself into Homs in 2012 to help the Syrian people. After operating on 89 people in 12 days, he concluded that the violence in Syria was the worst he had ever seen.

Beres was a co-founder of Doctors without Borders and Doctors of the World, and has since sought to raise the plight of the Syrian people with the international community.
