Parvez Sharma

Pavez Sharma is an Indian filmmaker, author and journalist best known for A Jihad for Love, a ground-breaking film documenting the lives of LGBT Muslims.

A Jihad for Love received a number of awards, including the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentaries in 2009. Sharma’s second film, A Sinner in Mecca, was similarly reviewed, becoming a New York Times critic’s pick in 2015.

In 2016 Sharma was named a ‘human rights defender’ by Amnesty International. He has spoken at Berkeley, Yale, Columbia, Harvard and NYU, among other institutions.
