A quelques jours de la réunion des grandes puissances mondiales à Genève, 25 ONG animeront mardi une réunion de dissidents afin de rendre compte de la situation des droits de l’homme en Chine, à Cuba, en Corée du Nord, en Érythrée, en Russie, en Turquie, au Venezuela, et dans d’autres pays encore

Genève, le 22 février 2016 — Une semaine après que le Venezuela, membre du Conseil des Droits de l’homme de l’ONU, a déposé une plainte pour conspiration avec falsification de preuves contre Antonio Ledezma, le maire de Caracas âgé de 60 ans assigné à résidence pour s’être opposé au Président Nicolas Maduro, une coalition de 25 organisations non-gouvernementales pour les droits de l’homme, a annoncé, aujourd’hui, que Ledezma ainsi que le chef de l’opposition Leopoldo Lopez, en prison depuis tout juste deux ans, ont été sélectionnés pour se voir attribuer le prestigieux Prix du Courage du Sommet de Genève, au nom de tous les prisonniers politiques du Venezuela. 

Antonietta Ledezma, une fille du maire, ainsi qu’un membre de la famille Lopez, recevront personnellement les prix à l’occasion d’une grande cérémonie ce mardi 23 février où ils s’adresseront à des diplomates de l’ONU, à plusieurs centaines de militants des droits de l’homme, ainsi qu’à des journalistes du monde entier qui viennent assister au 8ème Sommet de Genève annuel pour les Droits de l’Homme et la Démocratie.

Ledezma et Lopez ont été choisis car “le courage extraordinaire dont ils font preuve pour défendre la liberté et les droits de l’homme universels sont une inspiration pour le monde entier” a déclaré Hillel Neuer, directeur exécutif de UN Watch et co-organisateur de la conférence aux cotés de Liberal International, Human Rights Foundation, Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, et plus de 20 autres groupes de défense des droits de l’homme.

L’année dernière, le Prix du Courage du Sommet de Genève 2015 avait été décerné au blogueur saoudien emprisonné Raif Badawi. En 2013, il avait été attribué à l’avocat chinois aveugle Chen Guangcheng.

L’année dernière, un raid policier avait arrêté Ledezma à son bureau, lequel fut ensuite jeté en prison. Il est désormais assigné à résidence pour raisons de santé. Les raisons politiques qui ont motivé son arrestation ont été formulées cette semaine seulement.

Des preuves falsifiées ont conduit, l’année dernière encore, à la condamnation à 13 ans de prison du chef de l’opposition Leopoldo Lopez. Demain, cela fera tout juste deux ans qu’il fut jeté derrière les barreaux où il demeure dans de cruelles conditions.

Avec l’opposition à sa tête, le corps législatif du Venezuela vient juste de déclarer l’amnistie pour tous les prisonniers politiques. Cependant, la déclaration fut rejetée par Maduro.

J’espère que cela permettra de rendre compte de la persécution systématique de ceux qui ont osé défier le régime et défendre la liberté de manière démocratique, et que cela fera davantage pression sur le régime de Maduro jusqu’à le contraindre à cesser les persécutions des opposants politiques et à libérer tous les prisonniers politiques” a-t-elle ajouté.

Le mois dernier, The Times of London rapportait que Tintori ainsi que sa belle-mère furent déshabillées pour être fouillées, et ainsi humiliées devant ses enfants lors de la visite de Leopoldo en prison.

Tintori insite sur le fait qu’en dépit des abus de pouvoir du régime de Maduro, elle ne cessera jamais de se battre pour la liberté de son mari.

“Je remercie la coalition des 25 groupes de défense des droits de l’homme du Sommet de Genève pour avoir sélectionné mon mari pour recevoir ce Prix dont il est réellement honoré. Ce prix renforce notre engagement en faveur du combat pour redonner la liberté à tous nos prisonniers politiques, ainsi que pour la démocratie. Alors que nous nous verrons remettre ce prix, nous penserons à tous ceux dont des proches souffrent d’injustice derrière les barreaux au Venezuela” a déclaré Mitzy Cpariles, la femme de Ledezma, qui s’exprimera lors de l’ouverture du sommet à l’ONU ce lundi 22 février, ainsi qu’à la session publique le jour suivant.

Le Sommet de Genève espère inspirer les Ministres des Affaires Etrangères à quelques jours de leur rassemblement à l’occasion des 10 ans du Conseil des Droits de l’homme.

Le Sommet de Genève se déroulera sur deux jours au cours desquels les plus grands noms du militantisme pour les droits de l’homme ainsi que d’anciens prisonniers politiques et victimes de la Corée du Nord, de la Chine, de la Russie, d’Iran, et d’autres régions sensibles en termes de droits de l’homme se présenteront et s’exprimeront dans le but de ramener des enjeux majeurs au coeur de l’agenda politique global à quelques jours du rassemblement du chef de l’ONU Ban Ki-Moon et de nombreux Minsitres des Affaires étrangères dans la même rue à l’occasion d’une 10ème session d’anniversaire du Conseil des Droits de l’homme.

Le Sommet de Genève de la semaine prochaine rassemblera en un seul et même endroit des défenseurs des droits de l’homme de première ligne, dont beaucoup ont fait l’expérience directe de la prison et de la torture.

Les témoignages puissants et saisissants des intervenants obligeront les délégués du Conseil des Droits de l’homme à empêcher les affaires politiques de l’emporter sur les cris des victimes des droits de l’homme.
